Genesis 1:1 famously states: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
These words mark the start of an inspired account that begins with God creating and ends with…God triumphing! This summer at Little Blessings Preschool & Daycare, we’ve been taking the days of creation and studying each one over a week’s time. It has been great to see the kids take an interest, from a two-year-old singing, “On day 5, God made fish and birds,” to a school-ager saying that “God is bigger and more powerful than Superman.”
More than enjoying all of the creative crafts we’ve made and field trips we’ve taken, I pray that the kids have started to see that God was responsible for the beginning, and that we can continue teaching them that He’s faithful to the end. The God who is big enough to speak the world into existence is sstill “small enough” to care about a child’s scraped knee. That’s the truth that kids can take with them beyond daycare, and one that we’ll strive to share with them as we begin looking forward to the beginning of another year of playschool and preschool.
Thank you, Lord, for caring about details as well as the big picture. Help anyone who cares for children remember that You love them even more than we do, and help us to live that love so they can learn more about who You are every day. In Jesus’ name, amen!
